iPhone 5s was the most anticipated smartphone in 2013 and till now unarguably it’s ‘the best iPhone ever’. With a better processor, improved camera, useful fingerprint scanner and more it has surely out passed its predecessor. But does being the most powerful phone of Apple take a toll on iPhone 5s battery life? If so is there any way to get better battery life? Let’s take a look at it.
With more power and performance usually everyone expects a lower battery life. But iPhone 5s battery life has even outsmarted iPhone 5’s. The iPhone 5s scored a respectable 5 hours and 2 minutes if used non-stop. But with moderate use the battery can easily stay for a day. Even though iPhone 5s battery life is better compared to its rivals like Samsung Galaxy S4, it can’t be called outstanding. Charging your phone daily is not an exciting concept. But there are small tips and tweaks that you can use to improve your iPhone 5s battery life. Here’s how that can be done.
Tips to Increase iPhone 5s Battery Life
Check Brightness
In iOS brightness setting has a big impact on battery life. But one good thing in iPhone 5s is that the brightness setting is manual. Keeping your brightness on dim can save a good amount of your iPhone 5s battery life. You can also modify the brightness setting on your own for the automatic brightness control.
Switch off Unwanted Location Services
GPS is a major drain on your iPhone 5s battery life and many iOS 7 apps use GPS to find your technology. But all of them aren’t necessary. So choose your apps and switch off the GPS for other apps.To Turn off Location Services for specific apps go to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Toggle it off for apps that you don’t want using your location info.
Use Airplane Mode
Switch your phone to Airplane mode if you want to use your phone in less connectivity and for a longer time. Being in airplane mode stops all calls, texts and emails. Swipe up on the bottom of the screen to open the Control Center and then tap on the airplane icon.
Turn off 4G LTE
If 4 G LTE is not available in your location it’s better to switch it off. It can save a reasonable part of your iPhone 5s battery life. Settings > Cellular > disable LTE/4G.
Switch off Wi-Fi Updater
Regularly searching for new Wi-Fi spots can seriously harm your iPhone 5s battery life. To disable this feature, launch the Settings app, tap on Wi-Fi, and tap on the On/Off toggle for Ask to Join Networks to disable it. Even if you disable this feature, your Wi-Fi will still automatically connect to known Wi-Fi spots but you will have to manually select a network if no known networks are available.
Switch off Auto Downloading and App Refreshing
iOS 7 has this auto downloading feature which allows apps and downloads to automatically occur without user intervention. Even though it’s convenient it drains much of your iPhone 5s battery life. Go to “Automatic Downloads” settings in the “iTunes & App Store” section to turn this feature off. Like auto downloading, auto refreshing also hurts iPhone 5s battery life. To turn this off visit the “General” section within Settings and switch off all Background App Refresh services, or select which individual apps you want to refresh their data automatically.
